Another Freedom Lost- Recess Time Is Gone PDF Print E-mail

emptyswings.001Before you think that I am attempting satire or humor, this is a serious attempt to make the reader understand how far the government schools have gone to prepare today's students to accept total government control.  In mid-April, an e-mail  from the principal issued the directive that no longer could my classroom have its customary recess but that time was to become a time for physical activity that included stations with directed activities  with students rotating in 5 minute increments from station to station.  No unstructured time was any longer permitted and all students were to be engaged in an activity at all times.  The principal warned that she and the vice principal would be monitoring this time very closely and would be walking into the gym (where we had recess) during our new physical activity period to be sure we were adhering to this directive.  A five day plan of the four stations was to be on the principal's desk at the end of that school day.

“Public” Education: An American Outrage PDF Print E-mail
Written by Warren Mass

What the church had been for medieval man, the public school must now become for democratic and rational man. God would be replaced by the concept of the Public Good, sin and guilt by the more positive virtues of Victorian morality ....

— Horace Mann, “The Father of Public Education”

So-called public education has become such a staple of life in the United States and other Western industrialized nations that it is now a sacrosanct institution. The transition from the small one-room school of yesteryear, often taught by a teacher privately hired by the parents of the children being educated (for an example of how this worked, read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving), to today’s gargantuan education factories is as big a societal change as the well-chronicled Industrial Revolution.

Children of the State, Revisited: School Uses Remote Cam On Laptops To Spy On Families At Home

A school that issued laptops to students for home use, used a secret program allowing school officials and technicians to access the cameras without parents or students knowledge, and even when the laptops were off.

School officials admit that the secret spying device and remote activation and viewing were in fact loaded into the laptops without parental or student knowledge or consent.

How to Use “Education Reform” as a Campaign Issue PDF Print E-mail
Written by Sam Blumenfeld

All candidates for office promise to “improve education,” but when they are elected, they haven’t the faintest idea of how to proceed from there. That’s because the whole idea of education reform is based more on the deliberate falsehoods produced by the educators than on the reality of why our schools are the way they are.

I have been writing critically about education for the last forty years, and the one thing that has become quite obvious to me is that all of the serious problems we have in public education today have been deliberately caused by the educators themselves, and that no true education reform is possible so long as we rely on the educators to create and implement these reforms.

Don't Shoot the Messengers PDF Print E-mail

Since They Can't Argue With The Message, They Shoot The Messengers...

Benjamin Franklin wrote his own epitaph:
"THE BODY of BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, Printer
Like the cover of an old book,
Its contents torn out,
And stripped of its lettering and gilding
Lies here, food for worms;
Yet the work itself shall not be lost,
For it will (as he believed) appear once more,
In a new,
And more beautiful edition,
Corrected and amended
By the AUTHOR"

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks.
